A mikoshi festival is a Japanese festival in which a mikoshi, a portable shrine, is carried around a community by the crowd. The mikoshi contains the spirit of the god or spirit. The festival aims to bless the citizens with good fortune and ward off misfortune, and the bearers who carry the mikoshi shake and rock it to awaken and amuse the god or spirit.
